Catete

Tavares Bastos is a hillside community on Morro da Nova Cintra in Catete, in Rio de Janeiro's South Zone. Reached from Rua Tavares Bastos, it is characterized by narrow alleys, steep stairways, closely built homes and broad views across the city. Its distinctive urban landscape has served as a filming location for Brazilian and international productions, including the opening chase in The Incredible Hulk (2008).

    Banner's home and rooftop chase

    Tavares Bastos doubles for the Rio neighborhood around Bruce Banner's home. Its narrow alleys, steep stairways, sports court and rooftops form the extended chase in which General Ross's unit, led on the ground by Emil Blonsky, pursues Banner. The interior of Banner's apartment was recreated on a studio set to match the location.
