Floriano Square (Cinelândia)
Downtown
Praça Floriano, better known as Cinelândia, is a landmark public square in the historic center of Rio de Janeiro. It is framed by the Municipal Theatre, the National Library, the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Pedro Ernesto Palace. The Cinelândia name became popular in the 1920s, when the area developed into a major district of cinemas, theatres, cafes and nightlife; the square later also became an important setting for civic life and political demonstrations.
