Taunay Cascade

Alto da Boa Vista

Taunay Cascade is the highest waterfall in Tijuca National Park, in the Forest Sector at Alto da Boa Vista. Its flow is formed by the Tijuca and Conde rivers and other tributaries, descending through dense Atlantic Forest vegetation. In 1817, French painter Nicolas-Antoine Taunay built a small house nearby and portrayed the waterfall in his paintings. The stone bridge with a Roman-style arch in front of the cascade was built in 1860 by engineer Job de Alcântara for the Imperial Government.

    After transforming and escaping the ambush in Porto Verde, Bruce wakes in a forest beside Cascatinha Taunay, which doubles for Guatemala. The waterfall and its stone bridge establish the jungle setting as he regains his bearings before continuing his journey.
