Sugarloaf Cable Car (Bondinho do Pão de Açúcar)

The Sugarloaf Cable Car is a two-stage aerial cableway and one of Rio de Janeiro’s best-known landmarks. The first section runs 528 metres from Praia Vermelha to Morro da Urca and opened on 27 October 1912. The second section, inaugurated on 18 January 1913, continues another 735 metres from Morro da Urca to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain. Conceived by Brazilian engineer Augusto Ferreira Ramos, it was the first cable car system built in Brazil and offers panoramic views across Guanabara Bay, the Atlantic coast and the city.

    Cable car fight with Jaws

    Bond meets CIA agent Holly Goodhead at Sugarloaf Mountain while she is observing Rio’s airport. During their descent in the cable car, Jaws traps the cabin and attacks them from the roof. Bond fights him high above the city, and he and Holly escape along the cable moments before Jaws’s cabin crashes into the station.
